Death By Kahoot: Alternative Digital Assessment Tools

I had the opportunity to attend and present at the Utah Educational Technology Conference, UCET, last week with my colleague. After my daughter came home from Jr. High one day and complained about three of her teacher using Kahoot that day, I knew we needed to do some outreach on the many, many tools available for formative assessments. Kahoot is a fun game and used sparingly, can be a great tool to pull out of your pocket for a fun review. However, it is my opinion that it is not a good tool for formative assessment.

My colleague, Gregg Crockett, and I reviewed many formative assessment tools and settled on our top three to be Quizizz, Deck Toys and the Google Forms add on: Auto Mastery. We chose these tools for their price (free), ease of use and data availability.
